Currently, the Application Workspace Bootstrapper automatically downloads (from the zone you specified) and installs the latest available version of the agent. We would like to have control over which version is deployed, configurable through the agent settings.
The past week demonstrated why automatically rolling out the newest version to all new devices is not ideal. As Recast itself emphasizes the importance of a proper DTAP strategy, it is surprising that the bootstrapper always retrieves the latest release by default.
While it is technically possible to provide a manual download URL by the --downloadUrl parameter, this is not a desired solution for us. We want this process to happen automatically, without manual effort such as updating source files. This is precisely the type of automation for which Recast Application Workspace was purchased. Manually supplying and updating a download link undermines that purpose.
Requested improvement:
Add an option that allows us to specify which agent version the bootstrapper should install. For example:
the latest release (R),
one release back (R-1),
two releases back (R-2), or
a specific hard-coded version.
This would give us the necessary control to align agent updates with our DTAP processes and ensure stable, predictable rollouts, without requiring manual maintenance or workaround URLs.
