When we set a "event" on a entitlement, we would like to have more options to have control when a package is going to run based on the event.
For example the possiblility to set a certain (reccuring) time when the package should do the install or launch action set.
Hello Prudvee,
Here some examples:
- We have customers which client/server applications. When the server application updates the client has to be updated as well. We need to make sure that the application will be updated on the client at that specific time. When a user already has the application open, we need to tell them that they have to close it and restart it from the start menu. If we can set a certain time, that the application will get closed, this would solve the issue. The quickest way for now is to wait for the recast agent refresh time, not a specific time.
- We have shared devices which needs to be shutdown at a certain time. This time can be different for different contexts. For example healtcare customers which have employees who work in shifts. We need to be able to set the even to a certain time during the day, to close down the pc. Now we need to create a schedule taks to do so.
For those customers the same fo application updates. The application can only be updated at a certain time for certain contexts (devices) to make sure that the update takes place, at exact the time we have control off.
- The possibility to send a notification (or other action) at once. For example that a servers is going to be restarted, etc. so the user will see the event at the planned time.
It would also be great to be able to create an event, based on a windows eventlog event. So that we can define our own trigger in the entilement based on a windows event, for example an event ID with a specifc kind of text in the event, etc. The same I could do with a scheduled task in Windows.
Thankyou for the feedback. Can you provide a use case example you are trying to solve by using a recurring event for install and launch?
