I would like to request a new feature for Recast Application Workspace that would significantly improve its flexibility and applicability in real-world enterprise environments: Process Interception, similar to the capability previously offered by RES in Workspace Manager / Workspace Control.
One of the key strengths of Application Workspace is the use of Smart Icons, which allow predefined actions, such as adding registry keys, mapping drives, or connecting printers, to be executed before launching an application. However, these actions currently only work when the application is launched via managed shortcuts created by Application Control, such as a desktop or start menu shortcut or a tile in the Launcher.
The limitation is that unmanaged shortcuts (e.g., direct links on the desktop or taskbar) and file associations bypass this logic, resulting in the application being launched directly, without the necessary prerequisite actions being performed. This can lead to inconsistent behavior, misconfigurations, or support issues.
To mitigate this, we often rely on machine-wide configurations, startup scripts, or MDM-deployed tasks to set the required conditions globally, which reduces the dynamic and user-specific nature of Application Workspace.
Introduce a Process Interception mechanism that detects when a defined application/process is started, regardless of how it is launched, and allows Workspace to run the associated Smart Icon actions before the actual process is executed.
This approach ensures:
Consistent application startup behavior across all launch methods
Reduced dependency on global machine-level configurations
Improved user experience and easier application lifecycle management
For more information on the concept, please see the documentation of Ivanti Workspace Control:

We believe that introducing this feature would bring substantial value to the product and align with modern workspace management requirements.
